I've been obsessed with art for as long as I can remember. Growing up, there was almost always a sketchbook and pencil within reach, but when the '90s rolled around and I heard Nirvana for the first time, music became just as important as art. I picked up the drums around age 13, and suddenly there was a whole other world of creativity to get lost in. Somewhere along the way, those two passions started overlapping, introducing me to new ways of bringing the ideas in my head to life—and eventually, to the world of digital design.
I started freelancing as a graphic designer in my mid-twenties, while playing in bands and navigating life as a stay-at-home parent. That unconventional combination gave me the flexibility to pursue my creative interests, including heading back to school to build on what I'd already taught myself. After years of experimenting in Photoshop, I finally got properly acquainted with Illustrator, InDesign, and the fundamentals of design and layout. Before long, I'd fallen down another rabbit hole: motion graphics. After Effects quickly became another favourite tool, opening the door to animation, video projects, and all kinds of creative work for friends, bands, and clients.
Over the years, I've worked on everything from branding and illustration to print design, digital marketing, and motion graphics. I've always enjoyed bouncing between different creative disciplines, and that variety has helped shape the way I approach graphic design today. Whether it's something clean and simple or a little more outside the box, I still get a kick out of turning an idea into something tangible.
These days, I call Vernon, BC home, where I live with my equally artsy partner, my two semi-crazy kids, our fully-crazy corgi Penny, and Rüfus, the household's CEO and occasional office cat.
